High water and bad weather can make paddling anywhere dangerous. Before beginning a trip paddlers should always use their own judgment to decide if their personal paddling skills match potential paddling conditions they encounter.

West Point Millpond Impoundment Minimum Water Level Required To Paddle: None, paddlable year round
Type of Trip: Out-and-back style flat water paddle
Length of Trip: 30 minutes to 2 hours (if taking a picnic lunch, kicking back to relax, taking time to explore Sennett’s Hole, or casting out a fishing line)
Put In: West Point on The Eno City Park above dam
Take Out: Same
Description: This short, but very scenic section of river is a great location for an on-water picnic or just kicking back to relax. Sennet’s Hole, a historic swimming hole, is accessible via a short wade from the furthest upriver point of this paddle.

Possible Challenges: At higher water levels current can create a problem and the millpond dam becomes a hazard

West Point on The Eno to Penny’s Band Nature Preserve Minimum Water Level Required To Paddle: 1.7 ft. in a small solo recreational kayak or 2.2 ft. in a canoe (Click the ENO USGS link in the water droplet on the left hand navigation bar to check current water levels) This is the only section of the Eno with any current and rapids that can be paddled with water levels below 2 ft.
Type of Trip: Point A-to-Point B moving water paddle
Length of Trip: 1 to 3 hours depending upon water levels and paddling speed
Put In: West Point on the Eno Durham City Park below the old mill dam and the concrete causeway
Take Out: Penny’s Bend Nature Preserve at the corner of Snowhill Rd. & Old Oxford Highway
Description: You will paddle through a corner of Durham city limits and almost never realize it! This section of river is well canopied and passes by some interesting geological features such as massive rocks, an oxbow lake, and Penny’s Bend.

Penny’s Bend Nature Preserve to the Eno Boat Ramp Minimum Water Level Required To Paddle: Paddleable year round - during summer months or long dry spells there may be a handful of short portages not too far downstream from Penny’s Bend. When the water level gets below 1 ft. portages become much more frequent in first part of trip (Click the ENO USGS link in the water droplet on the left hand navigation bar to check current water levels).
Type of Trip: Point A-to-Point B mostly flat water paddle
Length of Trip: 2 to 4 hours depending upon water levels and paddling speed
Put In: Penny’s Bend Nature Preserve at the corner of Snowhill Rd. & Old Oxford Highway
Take Out: Wildlife Resources Commission Eno Boat Ramp Access off of Red Mill Rd and Technica Blvd.
Description: This mostly flat water paddle begins along a tree covered, intimate section of the Eno. Within the first third of this trip you will pass the 75+ ft. Willie Duke’s Bluffs and the confluence of the Little River (which can be paddled up a short distance). As you continue, the Eno becomes much more broad and is bordered mostly by floodplain forest. As you near the end there is the option of paddling most of the way around a small island that is the remains of an old oxbow.

Eno Near Occoneechee Mountain Minimum Water Level Required To Paddle: None, paddlable year round except during prolonged drought.
Type of Trip: Out-and-back style flat water paddle
Length of Trip: 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours if taking a picnic lunch and kicking back to relax
Put In: Eno Mtn. Rd./ Allison Rd Bridge (200+ ft. carry on narrow trail to reach water)
Take Out: Same
Description: Great views of Occoneechee Mtn. and other various rock formations. Numerous downed trees (most can be easily paddled around or over) are reminents of past hurricanes. This location is a nice alternative to Pleasant Green Impoundment now that it is no longer a flat water paddling option

Possible Challenges: Access to river is relatively long carry on narrow foot path. Downed trees on the river from past hurricanes may require some tight turning to negotiate through to avoid getting out of boats
