GUIDE BASICS I

March 12 - 14 & April 3

Students in our Guides Basics I training will be introduced to the necessary skills for quality leadership and instruction to lead flat water kayak and canoe trips. Session focus is on the preparation, execution and evaluation of various excursion types and group management skills. Learn effective guiding skills, basic strokes, packing and organizing gear, weather (winds, rain & lightning), group safety, basic map and compass, boat rescue, self-rescue, and the use of tide and current tables. Must be a strong swimmer.  Participants must provide their own paddle gear.  Frog Hollow can provide boats and gear for an additional fee.

KAYAK FUNDAMENTALS INSTRUCTOR TRAININGs I &II

Our Kayak Instructor courses cover various teaching methods and basic safety concerns for instructing introductory kayaking skills on flat water, and how to apply this knowledge. Instructors In Training (IITs) are required to do pre-class research, and prepare short lesson plans and teach their lesson plans to other IITs in the course.  IITs must have previous kayak and canoe experience and be a strong swimmers.  Participation in Frog Hollow’s Intro to Kayak Class does meet this sessions experience requirements.  Participants must provide their own paddle gear.  Frog Hollow can provide boats and gear for an additional fee.

 

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING I - INTRO TO KAYAKING 22hr course

March 24-27 & April 3 / 6pm-10pm Weekdays/8pm-6pm Weekends

June 23-26 & July 11 / 6pm-10pm Weekdays/8pm-6pm Weekends

Instructors In Training (IITs) will learn “classroom” management skills and safety, proper and efficient paddling technique and instruction methods, boat rescue and self-rescue.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING II - RIVER FUNDAMENTALS

March 24-28 & April 3 - 6pm-10pm Weekdays/8pm-6pm Weekends

Instructors In Training (IITs) for Training II will partake in the Training I and continue into a full extra day with emphasis on basic river safety, hydrology, and proper skills to maneuver and negotiate various river features.

FREE for current Frog Hollow Staff

$325 for general public

$125 for just River Training Day

(this option only available for Instructors who

have previously taken the Instructor Training I session)
