"Green" Business as Usual

At Frog Hollow, we are noticing a drastic shift with more businesses taking a true interest in being eco-conscious.  We applaud every step, no matter how small, and we hope that when one "Green" step is made it will be followed by another.

Here are some of the things in which Frog Hollow is doing to  be more
GREEN

Our ongoing Campaign to help the local community in supporting our regions beautiful rivers and creeks.  The campaign focuses on environmental education, on-water river cleanups, and even trips to help raise funds and awareness for some of our many excellent local environmental non-profits.

Big Red, AKA Roxanne, our big red Dodge pickup, has been running on Bio-diesel and/or SVO (straight veggie oil) since 2004.  Manager, Banks Dixon, gave a presentation at the 2006 P.I.A. Paddlesports Pro Conference about the basics of using Bio-diesel and SVO, and promoting the use of it for paddlesports businesses.   ...sing with me now (to to the tune of "Roxanne" by The Police)  "Roxanne! You don't have to run on no petroleum fuel! Roxanne!"

We support NC Green Power every time we pay our electricity bill.  NC Green Power's goal is to supplement NC's existing  power supply with more green energy - electricity generated from renewable resources like the sun, wind and organic matter.

Manager, Banks Dixon, was awarded the PIA Environmental Excellence Award at their 2007 national Paddlesports Pro Conference.  We are also involved with the P.I.A. Green Shipping Committee which is working towards an industry wide plan to reduce the environmental impact of shipping  kayaks, canoes, and paddlesports related gear.

We have researched various options and have come up with a group lunch option that is entirely made up of local and/or organic food.  We now offer the LOCAL/ORGANIC LUNCH OPTION for all group trips.

From paper to food scraps, we are always Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling in any way we can!  Notes, letters, or any in-office forms are printed on the blank backsides of junk mail or repurposed old letterhead.  Our envelops and mailers are all reused or repurposed junk mail envelops (any existing barcodes or addresses are thoroughly covered).  We compost, and use the soil for a garden space that our staff is encouraged to use.

"LEAVE NO TRACE" OUTDOOR ETHICS - Practiced on all day & overnight trips

SECOND HAND Paddling and Outdoor Gear  - This keeps good and usable gear in use, instead of it ending up in a landfill

GREEN PADDLING GEAR -  As disturbing as it may sound, most outdoor gear (paddlesports gear included) is manufactured in very "eco-Unresponsible" ways.  Because of this Frog Hollow is committed to searching out, and rotating into use,, the most eco-friendly gear we can find.  As well, we are on the perpetual quest to inquire about what steps manufacturers are doing to create more earth-friendly products.  We encourage you to do this as well.
