JORDAN LAKE This 14,000-acre lake is one of the largest summertime nesting locations of Bald Eagles in the Eastern US! Many State maintained campsites are scattered along the length of this impressive body of water. General Location: South of Chapel Hill, Southwest of Raleigh CLICK HERE FOR MORE JORDAN LAKE PADDLING INFO FALLS LAKE This long twisting 12,000-acre lake offers many nooks and crannies to escape into. Hundreds of state maintained campsites are scattered from one end of this lake to the other. A large section of the Lake, Beaver Dam, is off limits to gasoline engines. ENO RIVER The Eno is bordered by many acres of state and city parkland. Even though this river flows right through a corner of Durham's city limits you would never guess it as you float along this diverse and scenic waterway. Remains of 18 historic mill sites, bluffs covered in rhododendron and mountain laurel, an abundance of native wildflowers, and interesting native fauna are some of the things this wonderful river has in store for you. There are a number of flat water stretches of the Eno that are paddleable year round even through extended periods of drought. USGS Gauge (Eno Near Durham): Minimum 1.7 ft to 2.5 ft. (120 cfs) depending upon which section of river you paddle. There are a # of flat water stretches of the Eno that are always above minimum. General Location: North Durham CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENO RIVER PADDLING INFO NEUSE RIVER The Neuse is a long river flowing from Falls Lake all the way to New Bern & the Pamlico Sound (a great extended paddling trip!). While paddling the full length of the Neuse may not be what you have in mind, the Triangle Area portion of this river flows just to the east of Raleigh and is a great place to escape, and soak in Nature's bounty for an afternoon. USGS Gauge (Neuse near Falls): Minimum 1.2 ft. to 1.6 ft (250 cfs) depending upon which section of river you paddle. Usually above minimum except after prolonged drought. HAW RIVER The Haw is a wide, rocky, and island riddled river. It feeds Jordan Lake and offers beautiful scenery as well as some challenging paddling for the Piedmont of NC. DEEP RIVER Not named for the depths of its water but instead for how deeply it sits below its banks. This leisurely river is a great place to relax when life becomes too fast paced. Steeped in history this river has many surprises around each bend. USGS Gauge (Deep at Moncure): Generally above minimum except after prolonged drought. CAPE FEAR RIVER The Cape Fear is the namesake for one of the three river basins that the Triangle Region has grown within. If so inclined, one could paddle the Cape Fear all the way to Wilmington. The river immediately south of the Triangle has some challenging rapids and beautiful scenery, which make the extra drive to paddle it well worth the time. USGS Gauge: Usually above minimum.
